Nero’s dream

The flames are liking
starless heavens,
smoke’s devouring
city’s flesh.

A mad men’s dream
of old Rome blazing –
people perished
in their dreams.

Torches flying,
people shrieking,
watching silent –
gods above.

“Torch it all!”
the Caesar’s screaming,
“Let the fire
cleanse this hole!”

The purple dawn
is slowly creeping,
above the charred
city walls.

The Caesar’s tired,
in peace he’s  sleeping,
the Gods are calm - they never sleep.
